Ancient Wisdom & Modern Healing: Vedic & Yogic Paths for Mental Health
Friday May 9, 2025 2:00pm - 3:00pm WITA
This panel explores how ancient Vedic and yogic practices—like yoga nidra, pranayama, and meditation—intersect with modern healing trends such as biohacking and somatic work. It highlights the importance of honoring these traditions as holistic, life-transforming systems rather than isolating techniques for quick fixes. Panelists will examine the deep wisdom behind these practices and their relevance in today’s mental health landscape.

"Ancestry, Somatic Experiencing & Trauma: A Unique Perspective"
Saturday May 10, 2025 11:30am - 12:30pm WITA
Trauma affects every one of us — whether personally experienced or absorbed through witnessing the suffering of others. And yet, for something so universal, it often remains unspoken and misunderstood.

In this immersive 60-minute seminar, Nadine McNeil — yoga teacher, author, and somatic experiencing practitioner-in-training — unpacks the interwoven layers of ancestry, embodied trauma, and healing. As a woman of color who has spent much of her life navigating spaces where she often stood alone in terms of ethnicity and identity, Nadine brings a deeply personal lens to this conversation.

Together, we’ll explore:
- What trauma really is: a delayed physiological and emotional response to an overwhelming event

- How trauma often resurfaces unexpectedly, triggered by seemingly unrelated experiences

- Why some trauma may never fully "heal" — and how we can learn to live and grow through it

- The impact of ancestral and racialized trauma, drawing on the work of Resmaa Menakem and others

- Why racialism is not a cognitive experience, but an embodied one — and how this affects our relationships with ourselves and others

- The role of somatic practices, mindfulness, and compassionate awareness in beginning

- the healing process

This seminar also includes practical tools and reflections for beginning or deepening your own journey with somatic awareness, ancestral inquiry, and healing. A Q&A session will close the hour, creating space for shared dialogue and community learning.

As Nadine beautifully reminds us:

“When one of us suffers, we all suffer. But when one of us heals, we all heal.”
