The word pranayama is comprised of two roots: ‘prana’ + ‘ayama’ . Prana means ‘vital energy’ or ‘life force’, it is the force which exists in all things and Ayama is defined as ‘extension’ or ‘expansion’ . Thus the word pranayama means ‘extension’ or ‘expansion’ of the dimension of prana .
The different breathing techniques of pranayama provided can help activate and regulate the life force in order to go beyond one’s normal boundaries or limitations and attain a higher state of vibratory energy and awareness.

Yoga Nidra is scientifically studied and proven to relieve stress and burnout, improve sleep quality, release anxiety and depression, recover from PTSD symptoms, interrupt addictions and manage inflammation. 

In this workshop we will drop into deepest levels of stillness and silence using Yoga Nidra, the sleep of the yogis.

Melody is the creator of Black Metal Yoga, an all-levels vinyasa flow set to Black Metal music, going strong for ten years in NYC. Having risen up out of a dark past, she believes we must embrace the darker sides of ourselves to grow and change for the better. No one is all light no matter how much work we have done and suppressing the unpleasant experiences we have lived through leads to imbalances which can create both mental and physical distress. Melody teaches unique classes in the dark to black metal music, which is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Common traits include fast tempos, a shrieking vocal style, and heavily distorted guitars. Bringing the body into balance by combining unlikely sounds with the magic of yoga postures aligns both dark and light sides, bringing greater harmony within.

Melody is also a certified trauma-informed yoga teacher and hosts Dharma talks before and after yoga classes to help people heal from trauma, abuse, and depression. In addition Melody is a certified Reiki therapist, Pilates instructor, wellness coach, crystal healer, and personal trainer.
